        The Department conducts the following courses as per the syllabi and examination patterns of Kannur University:

1.    B. A. Functional English

          The course is designed to develop the English language skills of the students and to train them for jobs in media (print and broadcast), teaching etc.

 

 

Journalism is taught as an ancillary subject. Political Science is the other subsidiary subject.

A well equipped language lab, audio visual facilities and the library are integral components in the teaching programs.

2. Part I General English courses (3 papers)

Seminars, workshops etc are conducted regularly as part of the academic work. Some of the programs conducted in the past are listed below.

  9, 10, 11 March 1998

       Seminar on Broadcasting and Script Writing for the students of Functional English. Prof. John Sankaramangalam, former Director of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, gave a series of talks on broadcasting, script writing and film production.

  15,16 September 1999

       A Documentary Film Festival was conducted. It was inaugurated by Mr. O. K. Johney (noted documentary film director).

   4th January 2002

        A seminar on ‘The Cultural History of WayanadÂ’ was held jointly by the Department of English, Mary Matha Arts and Science College Mananthavady, and AIR- Kozhikode.

 

 Sri.  Savio James (HOD), Sri. Biju Joseph, Sri. George Thomas and Rev. Fr. Francis N.T. are the members of the faculty.
