A full-time degree course is conducted in the department with Chemistry and Biological Techniques as subsidiaries. A well-equipped laboratory with all required specimens and equipment is part of the department facilities. Along with their regular classroom learning and practical work, students also do a supervised project work. Every year they are taken on a study tour to  places/institutions of scientific importance with a view to improving their scientific/research aptitude  and skills.

Zoology department conducts seminars, science exhibitions, blood grouping, video shows, slide shows etc. in connection with students-oriented scientific activities. Students  actively participate in various extra-curricular activities. Students are interested and involved in the social and environmental matters of their communities, too.

The  Science Exhibition conducted in 2003 and the survey done during 2002- 2003 on the Plastic Waste Disposal in Mananathavady Punchayath received much appreciation and contributed considerably to making the public aware of the concerned issues.

Teachers of the department attend Orientation and Refresher courses periodically  as part of their continuous  learning and to improve their effectiveness as teachers. Teachers also attend seminars, workshops, computer classes, awareness programs, coaching classes etc with the same objective.
