In the last 31 years the diocese registered tremendous growth in
every sphere. One of the main thrust areas of the diocese's
activities from its very inception was education. The diocese
concentrated mainly on starting new educational
institutions in order to impart formal education to the people of Wayanad. Informal and non-formal methods of education also
were planned and carried out with the aim of spreading literacy,
especially among the tribals and illiterate people of the
district. The Corporate Educational Agency Trust (CEAT) is the
official agency of the diocese for carrying out its
educational mission. It is a registered trust and statutory body
constituted as per the Kerala Educational Act of 1958. In the place
of six Lower Primary schools, nine Upper Primary schools, three High
Schools and one Teachers’ Training Institute when the diocese
was formed, we now have 26 Lower Primary schools, 14
Upper Primary schools and 16 High Schools run by the diocese and its
parishes. Moreover, we now have four Higher Secondary schools,
two parallel degree colleges and one aided and affiliated degree
college. Many of these institutions function in villages where
tribal children and the children settler farmers are the chief
beneficiaries. Altogether, at present, we have approximately 1050
teachers working and 27,470 students studying in various
institutions of the diocese. This itself manifests the
interest and growth of the diocese in education. |
|
From the very birth of the diocese, it took a keen interest in the
overall development of the tribal population of the district.
Various programs, such as literacy campaigns, social welfare schemes
etc. were launched for their uplift. The diocese concentrated
attention on the social, agricultural, healthcare and spiritual
growth of all people without any discriminations of caste, creed or
religion. The excellent social end developmental work done by
the social service wing of the diocese, Wayanad Social Service
Society (WSSS), and the activities of the various organizations and
associations of the diocese have contributed tremendously to the
overall development of the people of Wayanad. The diocese runs
many specialised institutions especially for the welfare, uplift and
rehabilitation of children of broken families, mentally challenged
people, aged people, handicapped individuals, orphans, mental
patients etc. The diocese of Mananthavady, with its efficient
and dedicated priests and committed laity, is
striving hard to achieve the overall development of the people of
its area of jurisdiction. |
